Become a host family

UK Eton Guardianship Experience

Outside term-time, students stay in carefully selected, British Homestay accommodation. Homestay accommodation is an ideal way for your child to experience British culture and improve their English speaking ability while outside of school.

Safe and Secure

To ensure that all of our host families meet our high standards, each host is personally interviewed and has their accommodation checked for suitability by Eton Guardianship team. All prospective hosts are also verified in accordance with current UK Child Protection legislation.

Family Life

When living with a host family, students are expected to take part in all aspects of family life. Most families also organise day trips, birthday parties and other festival celebrations.

Stability

At Eton Guardianship, we believe that stability is important for students. Bearing that in mind, we aim at keeping students with the same host family for the duration of their school life. Likewise, in the unlikely event that the student does not get on with the host family (or vice-versa), it is possible for the student to move elsewhere. All host families are personally interviewed by the Director or a local coordinator. References and official checks are obligatory.

We rely on our network of excellent host families to help us take care of our students when they have to leave school, including some weekends and half term holidays.

We are always seeking to expand our host family network as our student numbers increase and are currently looking for host families in the following areas:

Brighton, Lancing, Cambridge, Bedford, Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Hertfordshire, Greater London, Surrey, Bristol, Bath, Devon, Dorset, Somerset, Gloucestershire, Yorkshire and Worcestershire.

Our hosts are interested in sharing their lifestyle in a positive and mutually rewarding way. Our students want to experience life as part of a British family-to learn English in a caring environment, to have a home away from home. Our hosts are excited to welcome someone new into their lives. They want to learn about another culture-and to see their own culture in a new light-through a international visitor's eyes.

Having an international student in your home takes time, patience, and a willingness to share. If you are willing to host a student this is your next step:

  • Registration with full details
  • Interview and visit to family home
  • Validation through personal and professional references; these references are taken in writing and double checked on the telephone Vetting by the Criminal Records Bureau
  • Checks performed by the Child Protection Unit of Social Services
  • A contract for the care of the child
